While some people wondered what happened to the summer of 2017, others are looking forward to winter and embracing the sunny weather we've been having in Hamilton this autumn. With the shortest day of the year approaching (21 June), it's nearly time to enjoy the rainy season which famously makes Waikato the lush, fertile heart of New Zealand.
Rainy days provide special opportunities for visitors to discover the many wet-day delights Hamilton has to offer. Here are a few to get you started:
1.Waikato Museum (Te Whare Taonga o Waikato) is set on the banks of the Waikato River, in the heart of Hamilton's cultural precinct. It has 13 indoor galleries, including a hands-on science gallery for children.
2.Hobbiton looks great in the rain! The tour of the Hobbiton Movie set is undertaken in the comfort of a dry, air-conditioned bus where you can look out the window and use your imagination to re-enact some of the famous rain scenes from the Lord of the Rings movies.
3.The Classics Museum and Jukebox Diner is the perfect rainy-day venue for lovers of classic and vintage cars and collectibles. With a 1950s themed diner on site, complete with a Rock & Roll jukebox, it's great place for the whole family to stay dry and take a step back in time.
